The type of visa you’ll need to teach in Australia depends on your nationality, the type of role you’re applying for, and how long you plan to stay. Below are the most relevant visa pathways for educators seeking to work in Australia
Skills in Demand (Subclass 482)
Employer-Sponsored Visa for Qualified Educators
The Subclass 482 visa allows skilled educators to live and work in Australia when nominated by an approved employer. This visa is suited to teachers who have secured a full-time role in a school or early childhood centre that is registered to sponsor overseas workers.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this visa, you must:
Be nominated by an approved Australian employer
Have qualifications that match an eligible teaching occupation
Have at least one year of full-time, post-qualification teaching experience (within the past five years)
Meet English language requirements
Meet health and character requirements
Provide a skills assessment, if required for your occupation

Working Holiday (Subclass 417)
For Educators from Eligible Partner Countries
The Subclass 417 Working Holiday Visa allows young people from eligible countries to live, travel, and work in Australia for up to 12 months. This visa is ideal for casual teaching, early childhood, and school-based support roles while exploring Australian life and culture.

You must:
Be aged 18 to 30, or up to 35 for some countries (see below)
Hold a passport from one of the eligible countries
Not be accompanied by dependent children
Meet general health and character requirements

Working Holiday Maker (Subclass 462)
For Educators from Partner Countries with Additional Entry Requirements
The Subclass 462 Work and Holiday Visa is a temporary visa for young adults from eligible countries who want to work and travel in Australia for up to 12 months. It’s well suited to early childhood educators, CRTs, and support staff seeking casual roles in Australian schools and centres.
Eligibility
You must:
Be aged 18 to 30 at the time of application (some exceptions apply)
Hold a passport from an eligible country
Have completed at least two years of post-secondary education
Demonstrate functional English
Provide a letter of support from your government (some countries exempt, such as the USA)
Meet general health and character requirements
